The WP Blood Transfusion Service celebrates National Blood Donor Month during June.  WPBTS will also join the worldwide celebration of World Blood Donor Day on 14 June 2018.

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) theme for World Blood Donor Day is blood donation as an action of solidarity.  According to the WHO this highlights the fundamental human values of altruism, respect, empathy and kindness which underline and sustain voluntary unpaid blood donation systems.  The slogan, “Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life”, has been adopted to draw the attention to the roles that voluntary donation systems play in encouraging people to care for one another and generate social ties and a united community.

We would like to encourage every person in the Western Cape, who fulfil the basic donor criteria to come and donate blood.  During the month of June, bring a friend, colleague or family member with you to donate blood as part of the act of solidarity.

If you are between the ages of 16 and 65, weigh more than 50kg, you are healthy on the day of donation and lead a safe sexual lifestyle you should be able to donate blood.  Visit www.wpblood.org.za, call 021 507 6300, SMS ‘Blood’ to 33507 or download our app, WP Blood to find out where to donate.

You can make a difference by donating blood and saving up to 3 lives!
