Annually the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) aims to increase their active donor base with 3%. This means that more than 2 200 new blood donors are needed every year in order to supply the Western Cape with sufficient blood.

The WCBS has made a ‘call to arms’. “We encourage all blood donors to unite, take arms (figuratively speaking) and challenge their family and friends to join them by donating blood and saving up to three lives with one donation”, says Marike Gevers, Public Relations Manager at WCBS.

If you are between the ages of 16 and 75, weigh 50kg or more, are healthy on the day of donation, lead a safe sexual lifestyle you should be able to donate. Take a selfie while donating blood and share it on social media, challenge your friends and family to do the same by tagging them in your post and tag, @TheWCBS. As a small token of appreciation each existing blood donor who brings a successful new blood donor to a blood donation clinic, during November, will receive a limited-edition Blood Buddy keyring.

To find your closest blood donation clinic please download the WCBS app on Android and iOS or send us a WhatsApp on 060 549 7244 for more information.

Do something remarkable, donate blood.
