Welcome to our new website

WPBTS is very excited to launch our new and improved website!

Following a process of assessing, designing, evaluating and testing, we are proud to announce that the new WPBTS website went “live” on 06 July 2015.  The aim of the new website is to become an interactive platform for users.

The Western Cape celebrates National Blood Donor Month and World Blood Donor Day

Annually during June, South Africans celebrate National Blood Donor Month, while countries worldwide celebrate World Blood Donor Day on 14 June.

Worldwide the theme for World Blood Donor Day is “thank you for saving my life”.  This theme focuses on thanking blood donors who save lives every day through their selfless act of donating blood.  The aim is also to encourage more people all over the world to donate blood voluntarily and regularly.

Make it your business to save a life

Social responsibility is key to most organisations that continually look at how they can make a difference and give something back to their community. However, choosing a project can sometimes be a daunting task, as there are several choices and non-profit organisations that all deserve its share of assistance from the business community.

You are someone’s type

February is known, throughout the world, as the month of love. What better way to share your love with someone unknown to you, by donating blood at one of the Western Province Blood Transfusion Service’s (WPBTS) mobile or fixed clinics during this month?

The Western Cape’s hospitals and clinics require approximately 700 units of blood each day. As blood cannot be artificially manufactured, the WPBTS solely rely on the support of volunteers every single day.

2015 Blood Donation Challenge

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! WPBTS wishes everyone a happy and prosperous 2015.

A New Year creates time for reflection of the past year and a New Year inspires new challenges. These challenges become New Year’s Resolutions – what do we want to achieve, what do we want to change and what we need to do to reach these ideals.

We know you have a heart

It’s this time of the year again – a time for giving, a time for sharing and a time to spend with those you love.

Western Province Blood Transfusion Service Statement regarding Ebola and the Safety of Blood Supply

The safety of blood recipients, donors and staff remains a top priority for the Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS). The recent Ebola outbreaks may have a direct impact on blood safety and it is for this reason that individuals who have travelled to countries where Ebola is prevalent will be deferred from donating blood. As these areas are also considered at risk for Malaria, donors returning from these areas would be routinely deferred even in the absence of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
