We take accreditation, safety and quality incredibly seriously. WCBS is fully accredited and operates according to strict international and national standards. Our goal is simple: to ensure that every step — from collection to testing to distribution — meets the highest levels of excellence.

We are accredited by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) for the collection, processing, testing, and distribution of blood and blood products. We are also accredited by Safe Working Practice (SWP), an independent organisation that certifies compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

South African National Accreditation Systems (SANAS):

SANAS accreditation is based on internationally recognised ISO9000 and ISO17025 systems. These systems ensure consistent quality, reliable processes, and safety at every stage, benefiting both donors and recipients.

All divisions of WCBS — blood banks, clinics, laboratories, processing units, and administrative departments — undergo annual SANAS audits. WCBS has met all SANAS requirements every year since 2002.

Safe Working Practice (SWP)

SWP is an occupational health and safety consultancy operating nationwide. They conduct annual safety audits to ensure WCBS complies with all relevant health and safety legislation. Their focus on quality, customer service, and strong safety systems aligns with our commitment to protecting staff, donors, and patients.

WCBS was first audited by SWP in 2016, following previous assessments by Technilaw and NOSA.
