Haemovigilance refers to the surveillance system that monitors all adverse events associated with blood donation and transfusion, aiming to improve the safety of these practices. Active structures are in place to analyse and classify adverse transfusion reactions; however, this relies on the timely and accurate reporting of these incidents to the blood services by clinicians. An annual haemovigilance report is compiled by the National Haemovigilance Committee (NHVC) and can be viewed here.
