WCBS was ready and set to go, eagerly ushering in National Blood Donor Month in June, with celebrations highlighting World Blood Donor Day on 14th June under the theme ‘One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives’.
The 14th of June is also the birthday of Dr Karl Landsteiner who discovered the ABO and Rh blood group systems.
The theme this year takes a step back from seeing blood donation as a medical procedure and instead as a meaningful act of solidarity, innate compassion and collective responsibility for patients in our communities.
A key goal was to collect 1,000 units of blood during a special blood drive held at 10 participating shopping malls on Saturday, 13th of April, to build up stocks for the winter months ahead. The results were a proud testament to the remarkable commitment of WCBS blood donors, culminating in 882 blood donations with the recruitment of 156 new donors.
Thank you to everybody who came out to donate blood during National Blood Donor Month. Please consider donating at least 4 times a year to keep the blood stocks full.
