Thank you to all blood donors who participated in the Extra Drop initiative during November and December, supporting Operation Smile. Your generosity helped raise R 57,584, enabling Operation Smile  to continue their remarkable efforts in providing solutions for children born with a cleft lip or palate.

In the last two months, 3,839 blood donors chose to support Operation Smile and we were delighted to present the donation to Sarah Scarth, Executive Director and Ronel Visagie, Marketing, Communication & Events Coordinator at Operation Smile South Africa. “We are incredibly grateful to WCBS and to every blood donor who supported The Extra Drop campaign in support of Operation Smile” says Sarah. “They didn’t just donate blood- they’ve helped a child born with a cleft condition have a chance at a transformed life.”

Your involvement in the Extra Drop makes a profound difference in the lives of so many.

This year, the Extra Drop initiative will have a new structure. Instead of  focusing on a single beneficiary over two months, we will support two beneficiaries over a four-month period. At the end of this period, all funds raised will be equally divided between the two charities.

Our first two beneficiaries for 2026 will be U-Turn, a non-profit organisation that has developed an innovative skills-based programme aimed at addressing homelessness to facilitate long-term results for rehabilitation and reintegration. Alongside them, we’ll also support SANCCOB, a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to reversing the decline of seabird populations through rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled seabirds, especially critically endangered species like the African penguin.

How It Works:

  • Donate Blood: Visit any of our WCBS centres to donate blood.
  • Choose Your Gift: Before your donation, you can either keep your token of appreciation or WCBS can donate a monetary value to charity on your behalf.
  • Making a Difference: If you decide to donate your token of appreciation, WCBS will match your kindness with a R15 contribution to the chosen charity.
  • Charity Focus: Every four months, we will support two different charities, carefully selected by the WCBS committee. These charities will focus on improving healthcare, education, poverty alleviation, youth development, early childhood development, people with disabilities, humanitarian work and animal welfare across the Western Cape.

Thank you for your continued support.
